The Junee Southern Cross reported on May 16, 2018 that Junee Shire Council agreed this week to restore the 89-year-old Athenium Theatre to its former glory and “bringing it into the 21st Century” at the same time by first stage of the restoration project would include;
- Repair damaged brickwork
- Development of an auditorium, dress circle and stage area
- Upgrading of lighting and sound systems
- A kitchen and amenities building to bebuilt, linking the auditorium and an outdoor entertainment area.
Installation of air conditioning is at the top of the theatre’s priority list, but with an estimated $417,920 cost this is heavily dependant on grant money approval at this stage.
