Over 1,100 people visited the Athenium Theatre in Junee on Saturday, March 23, 2019 to cast their vote in the NSW State Election.
Normally Junee’s primary Polling Station for state elections has been at the Multiple Purpose Hall at Junee High School (with pre-polling at the Junee Library and a secondary polling station at Illabo Public School), but for the 2019 State Election, the Athenium Theatre was utilised as the primary Polling Station for Junee Shire (and the pre-polling and secondary stations remaining the same).
At the state level, the bulk of Junee Shire is part of the District of Cootamundra, with a tiny portion of the south-western section is included in the District of Wagga Wagga. Federally, all of Junee Shire is contained within the Division of Riverina.
The Friends of the Athenium obtained permission from the NSW Electoral Commission to photograph the polling station being setup on Friday afternoon so we could highlight yet another, unique use, of the Theatre here on our website.
On Election Day, the Friends of the Athenium held a Cake Stall, with many delicious treats on sale and a raffle (Alas, there were no Democracy Sausages available)

Thanks to Ben O’Malley for providing the bulk of the photos, David Johnson for grabbing an early photo of the Friend’s Cake Stall, and a very special thank you to the NSW Electoral Commission for granting us permission to photograph them setting up on Friday afternoon.
